Every month, counterfeit money is sent to the Grodno Interdistrict department of the State Customs Service for examination. These are mainly old-style banknotes of 100 US dollars (issued before 2013), 50 euros, one thousand and five thousand Russian rubles. Very rare, but still there are Belarusian rubles.
Anton Ganenko, senior expert of the Grodno Interdistrict Department of the SSE, spoke about the latest technical examinations of documents. In one of the banks of the city of Grodno, a woman provided two banknotes with a face value of one thousand Russian rubles for exchange. The specialist doubted the authenticity of these banknotes, reported it to the police. Law enforcement officers seized the bills and sent them for forensic examination to the Grodno interdistrict Department of the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
- Experts confirmed the doubts of the bank employee, - said Anton Ganenko. – According to the results of the forensic technical examination of the documents, it was established that both banknotes were really fake. They are made with the use of high-tech equipment. Our experts have special knowledge and can easily identify a fake.
Sometimes there are also such facts when banknotes of a smaller denomination are made into banknotes of a larger denomination. For example, $ 5 is converted into $ 50. This can be said to be jewelry work: a zero is added to the five, the portrait of the president is changed, and on the reverse side, instead of "five", "fifty"is carefully pasted. A bank employee will be able to immediately recognize a fake, and an ordinary person may not pay attention to it, falling for the bait of an attacker.
– To protect yourself, in any case, you should not buy currency with your hands, - the interlocutor strongly recommends. - Often, citizens bring counterfeit bills from abroad, without realizing that they are dealing with a fake. It is possible that the employers paid them after completing the work, received them on the market as change or when exchanging currency with their hands.
This year, defective euros were provided for examination. The Hrodna woman brought a 50-euro bill to the bank, but there was no hologram on it. It turned out that during the production of the bill there was a factory defect. This happens very rarely, but it turns out it happens. Another version is also possible: the hologram could have been carefully removed by intruders in order to later make a fake.
By the way, criminal liability is provided for the production, storage and sale of counterfeit banknotes, the State Customs Service reminds.
In the subject
The US dollar is considered one of the most counterfeited currencies in the world. In 2013, the United States issued a new banknote with a face value of $ 100, which features a three-dimensional blue stripe with holographic images. It is difficult to forge such bills. They get to the examination less often than the same old-style banknotes.
